Oslo Airport deploys IDEMIA facial recognition technology

IDEMIA announced the first European deployment of MorphoFace in Europe. The new system at Oslo Airport replaces older infrastructure and expands automated border control to departures. MorphoFace is IDEMIA’s facial capture solution for its new automated border control gates.

The technology captures the face on the move, using no moving parts or additional lighting, and provides an unobstructed view over all gates. This project was custom-made and executed in cooperation with Avinor, Norway Police and local partner Seca Solutions AS. This deployment also provides a remote monitoring solution for the Norwegian Police to handle alerts during a passenger crossing and interfaces to systems to support the immigration and emigration border processes.

The Augmented Identity firm previously introduced the solution at Changi Terminal 4 and integrated it into the customs gates in New Zealand.

“Our solution allows Oslo Airport to reinvent its passenger experience,” commented Philippe Barreau, Executive VP of Citizen Identity and Public Security activities at IDEMIA. “We thank Oslo Airport for choosing IDEMIA for this improvement and look forward to further developing and inspiring future innovations.”

Last month the UK Home Office Biometrics (HOB) Programme awarded IDEMIA a five year contract to deliver a new fingerprint matcher service and the U.S. Department of State’s Consular Affairs office announced its plan to issue the firm a new sole source contract for facial recognition software.
